Dollfies
Never heard of Dollfies? That is okay. It can happen. Neither did I until the end of 2004. My close friend ordered two from Volks. Inc. from their Excellent Base Model Series. They are ball-jointed dolls, and come in several sizes. They can move in any direction a normal person can and are very customizable, meaning you can make your own unique looking Dollfie. Eyeballs and hair is best to order them, unless you got one where you can paint the eyes on. It is fun making them tiny clothes and make photo stories/shoots with them. There are Japanese versions as well as Korean ones.

After seeing how much fun my friend had with her dollfies, I decided to order one of my own, together with my friend's 3rd one and another friend's first one. I decided to name the dollfie after my first character, Calypso, making them one and the same. At the same time, I ordered her hair, Frosted Brownette, which I implanted on my own.

Since then, I tried my hands at making costumes. I tried making her undies, but that was a tough job. So I gave a try at a jacket and a shirt, which both failed and looked real akward. After many trials I had made a night dress, a Belldandy costume (unfinished in this picture) and several more things.

After half a year of fun like Sunbathing and playing 4-in-a-row, Calypso and I missed someone. Someone Calypso could hang around with besides me. So I ordered another Dollfie like her, but this time I chose Ruby Slippers. And thus, Eirwen got her Dollfie
Form. Unlike with Calypso, Eirwen her hair arrived a few days later. Since my character Eirwen has short hair, I had enough with only half the hair that was ordered, but it was good to have a backup. Calypso on the contrary took up all the hair I got. Even with backup hair, I found it hard to cut her hair short, so Eirwen lived with a bit long hair for a while, until I had the guts to cut it into shape.

After her haircut, I made a little photoshoot, using my tablet's pen as a way to let the Dollfies stand straight. After pictures like innocent Eirwen and Sceeming Eirwen, i wound up with a picture that was kinda like autumn, so I imported the picture in photoshop and editted to Autumn Eirwen.

Ever since, I've been sewing new costumes. but not only costumes. Also accessoires, like a 1/6 scale bag after analyzing a few pictures from this bag I found on an online store.

Finding out there were certain clothes of a populair western doll made it easy for me to make patterns for new clothes, as I could see how the clothes were made. Normally these clothes are very pink and fairy-tale like, but not this series I found. So I got them a nice set of pants and shirt as seen on the pictures here on the left and right.

In the meantime I finished making the Belldandy costume and even made some Fruits basket hats. And then Animecon 2006 came up. This year, I decided to take my Dollfies with me. Since I was gooing to cosplay as Alucard (Hellsing) and a FFXI mage, I found it fitting to let my girls cosplay as well. That way I ended up sewing a FFXI mage costume for Eirwen and an Integra (Hellsing) costume for Calypso. Since it was going to be a surprise for Eirwen, I used Calypso as model when sewing her costume.

Between the sewing of the cosplay outfits and the actual animecon, I heard from my friend at the last moment that there was going to be a Dutch Dollfie meeting in Utrecht a few days later. So I packed my things and took the girls with me on a trip to Utrecht, where we went sightseeing and looking for a good spot to snap some pictures. There we met my friend and other people, who knew eachother from Den of Angels forums, who all had these bg Dollfies. We ended up taking our photoshoots at a church behind the Dom, where Eirwen was laying on top of this boy staring at him with another boy on top of her and Calypso looking at them, wondering what was going on. The big photoshoot ended with a group picture of all the Dollfies present.

And then the animecon arrived. I didn't show much with them, but the times that I showed them, the reactions were great. A few days before I celebrated my birthday, I came acoss picture of a dress on internet and decided to copy it with the fabrics I had. It is not finised yet, but as soon as it is, I will post a picture ^_~
